Verges
While not not a tourist town, it is a fascinating little exploration, and piece of history and great addition to a little drive out from L'Estartit.

Verges is a small medieval town on a small hill in the Emporda plain, just inland from L’Estartit, and only a short 19-minute drive from Casa Roca Vista. The remains of the ancient castle and defensive towers, walls, and church enclose the town center and the original mediaeval town which dates back at least to 1115 CE. The small town sits along the left bank of the River Ter. The newer town hall was built in the 14th or 15th century. The area of interest is the older town to the south of GI-534.
We visited Verges with friends early in the day. We had fantastic coffee and pastries at El Café de la Plaça, located right near the town center, on Plaça Major, overlooking one of the old defensive towers and the Castell de Verges. Walking through the enclosed central square and along the narrow medieval streets bordering the riverbank is like stepping into the past. It is a small, easy town to walk and explore with signs along the way that describe what you're seeing and the history of the area. Plan 30 minutes to an hour to hit all of the sites, approximately 15 sites.
