L'Escala
L'Escala (The Scale) is a larger town with an active port and harbor. It offers a little bit of everything: shopping, nature, history, an active old town, and more.
L'Escala has a very well done archaeological site, the only site on the Iberian peninsula where the remains of the Greek city of Emporium can be found together with those of the Roman Emporiae "Market." The careful excavation of the ruins, the storytelling, and complementary images of the past and present make this an excellent museum. The museum also houses many ancient artifacts. Check out the Anchovies and Salt Museum and the small Roman village to the north, Sant Martí d'Empúries. Excellent beaches, coves, and dining.
